OAU Progams
School Sojourns
School Sojourns are field trip experiences throughout the school year that are specifically tailored for the participating school. On a one-day Sojourn, students could hike part of the Emerald Necklace, canoe the Charles, or go rock climbing or skiing in the Blue Mountains. On a multi-day Sojourns students spend two or more days and nights outside, camping under the stars in the Berkshires, Green, or White Mountains learning important physical, academic and social skills.
After School Adventure
After School Adventure is an after school program designed have students engage the outdoors everyday in a wide variety of ways. During a typical week in the program, Adventurers could sail the Esplanade Lagoon, kayak through Boston Harbor Islands and hike the Black Heritage Trail. In addition, students receive academic support and homework help.
Vacation Ventures
Vacation Ventures give adventurers opportunities to explore the outdoors and reach beyond borders during times when school is out of session. During February and April breaks, participants could make an excursion to Montreal and take a ferry across the St. Lawrence River, or fly down to Costa Rica to go snorkeling in the Caribbean as part of an eco-tourist expedition.
Camp Twilight
Camp Twilight is a Summer overnight camp located in Brownington, Vermont. The camp is located adjacent to the grounds of the Old Stone Museum, where Alexander Twilight, the first African-American person to have earned a Bachelor's Degree from an American college or university, founded the Orleans County Grammar School (also known as Brownington Academy). As Head of School, Twilight designed and established Athenian Hall, the first granite building in Vermont. In 1836 he was the first African-American elected as a state legislator, serving in the Vermont House of Representatives becoming the only African-American ever elected to a state legislature before the Civil War.
Nestled in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, campers have the Green Mountain National Forrest and Lake Willoughby as their playground as they hike, fish, swim, bike, climb and more. In addition, campers will be immersed in a multidisciplinary educational curriculum where students will explore themes of Science & Environment, Literature and Writing, Math & Measurement, Art & Music, Health & Wellness, History & Culture.
